Citizen Schools, Spark and High Jump Represent Chicago
In New National Initiative to Expand Middle School Education

National consortium pledges more than $600 million to boost middle school education

CHICAGO – November 10, 2015 – Citizen Schools, Spark and High Jump, three education organizations based in Chicago or with Chicago chapters, are part of a 20-member national coalition that in collaboration with the Afterschool Alliance will collectively invest more than $620 million over the next five years to create the new Expanded Learning Middle School Initiative. The Expanded Learning Middle School Initiative will enhance learning for more than 1.3 million 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders.

Steven M. Rothstein, CEO of Citizen Schools, is at the White House today to announce the funding for the new initiative during the Next Gen High School Summit, a national conversation on transforming high schools to better serve 21st century high school students. Citizen Schools, Spark and High Jump each work in dynamic ways with middle school students to provide additional learning opportunities to prepare students for success in high school and beyond.

High Jump Announces New Board of Trustees
Change in Leadership, a Leap Forward for Educational Non-Profit

CHICAGO – June 12, 2015 – High Jump, a non-profit providing tuition-free academic enrichment to Chicago-area seventh and eighth-grade students who display academic promise and who have limited financial resources, is pleased to announce several changes to their Board of Trustees. Most notably, Board Chair Tim Friedman and Vice Chair Philip Nevels will be assuming officer positions beginning this summer.

“We look forward to collaborating with this dynamic team to make High Jump the best program it can be,” said Executive Director Lee Hart. “High Jump greatly values our board’s expertise and experience to help us provide academic enrichment, counseling and support to our diverse student body.”

CHICAGO – April 8, 2015 – High Jump will celebrate a quarter century of providing tuition-free academic enrichment to promising seventh and eighth students with limited financial resources at the non-profit’s annual Spring Benefit May 2 at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago.

The Spring Benefit will occur just a little more than a week before High Jump’s 25th cohort of talented young scholars will graduate from the program at a Moving Up Ceremony hosted at the Latin School of Chicago on May 11. At the Moving Up Ceremony, High Jump will graduate its 1,000th student.

Students Served Will Double with Growing Program

 

CHICAGO – Jan. 29, 2015 – High Jump, in its 25th year of providing tuition-free academic enrichment to Chicago-area seventh and eighth-grade students who display academic promise with limited financial resources, is pleased to announce an expanded partnership with the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools.

Beginning this summer, High Jump will be able to offer 120 promising and motivated students the opportunity to participate in High Jump’s academic enrichment program on the Laboratory Schools campus. In addition to the summer sessions, High Jump participants attend Saturday classes twice a month during the school year.
