Favorite 2018 High Jump Moments

There were so many great things happening for High Jump this year and we asked High Jump students, alumni and staff what their favorite moments are:

“My first favorite moment for 2018 was to see one of High Jump students be recognized as one of the top two students for charter schools in the state of Illinois. My second proudest moment was when a current 8th student said that she did not know how she would have made it through the loss of her dad if it was not for the High Jump Program. It showed me how supportive we are.”

– Lance Miller, Latin Campus Director

“My favorite part of High Jump in 2018 was meeting all my new friends from all over the city.”

– Aryan, High Jump Seventh Grader

“My proudest moment this year was getting a high test score on my MAP test thanks to High Jump.”

– Kayla, High Jump Eighth Grader

“My favorite high Jump moment of 2018 was finding out about the high school senior alums who have already been accepted to colleges with scholarships. I’m glad that everyone’s hard work is helping them reach their dreams, and I expect to hear even more great college news in 2019!”

– Benjamin Serrano, Cohort 15 Alumnus

“My favorite moment of 2018 was the entire Summer Session. Teachers, TAs, and students worked hard as a team continuing to build up our community. It was also the first time I really got to know the staff and students.”

– Karen Thomas, Parker Campus Director

“This was my first year teaching at High Jump and my favorite part was having students who ask a lot of questions. As eighth graders they already know a lot about the world and we had a lot of in-depth conversations about heavy topics.”

– Joshua Smith, High Jump Issues & Ideas Teacher

“My favorite moment of 2018 is bringing in the largest cohort of students in High Jump’s history! It’s amazing to see how much the program continues to grow and serve so many deserving families.”

– Paty Perea, Director of Program Operations

“My proudest High Jump moment in 2018 was getting the Daniel Murphy Scholarship!

– Eldana, High Jump Eighth Grader

“My favorite part of 2018 was attending the Moving Up Ceremony – graduations are the best! It is a time to celebrate years of hard work and look forward to new opportunities.”

– Nate Pietrini, Executive Director

“My favorite High Jump memory this year was the Alumni Leadership Retreat! We really challenged ourselves on the high ropes course and it was cool seeing my friends go out of their comfort zones even though they were scared.”

– Krystal, Teaching Assistant and High Jump Alumna

“My favorite High Jump lesson this year was learning about genetics and psychology in science class.”

– Miyah, High Jump Seventh Grader

“One of my favorite High Jump memories this year was when we got to dissect a frog in our summer science class. I also learned a lot about the human body and how it is made up of different cells, and then I aced my biology exam!”

– Diego, High Jump Seventh Grader

Here’s to another great year in 2019!
